Privacy Policy

Effective Date: 15 August 2026  •  Last Updated: 1 August 2026

This Privacy Policy applies to the MYUNION.IN website and the MyUnion application at app.myunion.in, operated for citizens, workers, farmers, students, youth, women and registered unions and organisations across India. It is published in English; in case of any conflict with a translated version, this English version prevails.

1. Introduction

MYUNION.IN ("MyUnion", "we", "us", "our") is India's social networking platform built for citizens, workers, farmers, students, youth, women, employees and registered unions and organisations to connect, discuss public issues, form verified communities and participate in union elections. This Privacy Policy explains what personal data we collect through our website and app, why we collect it, how it is used and shared, how long we keep it, and the rights you have over it.

By registering for an account or otherwise using MyUnion, you agree to the collection and use of information as described in this Policy. If you do not agree, please do not use the platform.

2. Who We Are

MyUnion is operated by Maha Yuva Sanghatana ("Data Fiduciary" under the Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023). References to "MyUnion" in this Policy mean Maha Yuva Sanghatana acting in that capacity for the website (myunion.in) and the application (app.myunion.in).

3. Information We Collect

a. Information you provide directly

  • Account & registration data — full name, mobile number, email address (optional), date of birth, and a password (stored in encrypted/hashed form), or your Google/Facebook account details if you sign in that way.
  • Profile information — profile photo/avatar and a short status message or tagline you choose to add.
  • Union & membership information — the union or organisation you join, your membership/clock number, department or category, company or school name, and your taluka, district and state.
  • Candidate & election information — if you stand for a union election, your candidate photo, agenda/manifesto, and the proposer and seconder you nominate (and their responses).
  • Voting information — see Section 6 below.
  • Content you post — posts, photos, videos (including live video broadcasts you start), comments, likes, ratings and notices.
  • Messages — private messages and group/community chat messages you send through the platform.
  • Documents — any documents or certificates you choose to upload for membership or candidate verification.

b. Information collected automatically

  • Device & usage data — IP address, browser or device type, app version, and log timestamps of your activity on the platform.
  • Push notification tokens — mobile push tokens and web-push subscription keys, used only to deliver notices and alerts you are eligible to receive.
  • OTP verification data — one-time passwords sent to your mobile number or email to verify your identity; these are stored only briefly and expire automatically.

c. Information from third-party sign-in

If you register or log in using Google or Facebook, we receive your name, email address and profile photo from that provider, limited to what you have permitted in your account settings there.

4. How We Use Your Information

We use the information described above to:

  • create and authenticate your account, and verify your identity via OTP;
  • verify your union membership and, where applicable, your candidacy in a union election;
  • enable the platform's social features — posts, comments, likes, ratings, messaging, live discussions and notices;
  • conduct union elections fairly, including preventing duplicate or fraudulent voting;
  • send you notices, alerts and push notifications relevant to your union and community;
  • maintain the safety, security and integrity of the platform, including detecting abuse, spam and fraud;
  • respond to your queries and provide support; and
  • comply with applicable law, regulation, or lawful requests from public authorities.

Our processing is based on the consent you provide at registration, on the steps necessary to provide the services you request, and on our legitimate interest in keeping the platform secure and its elections fair — consistent with the Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023.

5. How We Share Your Information

MyUnion is inherently a community platform, so some information is visible to other members by design. We share information as follows:

  • With other members of your union/community — your profile, posts, comments and public activity are visible to members of the union(s) or community you belong to, per that community's settings.
  • With union administrators — for the purpose of approving membership requests and verifying candidate eligibility within their union.
  • With service providers — cloud hosting and database providers, push-notification services, and live-video infrastructure providers who process data strictly on our instructions and under confidentiality obligations, solely to operate the platform.
  • For legal reasons — where required by law, regulation, court order, or a lawful request from a government or regulatory authority.

We do not sell your personal data to any third party.

6. Union Elections & Voting Data

MyUnion allows unions to run their own internal elections (for example, for committee or category representatives). These are elections of a union or organisation on the platform — not government or statutory elections. When you vote:

  • your vote is recorded against your account, and the platform enforces one vote per candidate per voter, to prevent duplicate voting;
  • we log the IP address used to cast the vote, strictly for fraud-prevention and audit purposes;
  • vote counts are aggregated and shown publicly against candidates; we do not publicly disclose who an individual member voted for.

7. Data Storage & Security

We apply reasonable technical and organisational safeguards to protect your data, including encrypted transmission (HTTPS/TLS), hashed password storage, short-lived and auto-expiring OTPs, and access controls that limit who can view member data within the platform. However, no method of transmission or storage is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.

8. Data Retention

We retain your personal data for as long as your account remains active and as necessary to provide the platform's services. After you delete your account, we may retain limited data for a reasonable period where necessary for legal compliance, dispute resolution, fraud prevention, or to preserve the integrity of a union election that has already taken place, after which it is deleted or anonymised.

9. Your Rights

Under the Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023, you have the right to:

  • Access a summary of the personal data we hold about you;
  • Correct or update inaccurate or incomplete data in your profile;
  • Erase your personal data or deactivate your account, subject to the retention needs described in Section 8;
  • Withdraw consent at any time — note that withdrawing consent for certain data (for example, union membership details) may limit your ability to use related features;
  • Nominate another individual to exercise these rights on your behalf in the event of your death or incapacity; and
  • Grievance redressal — raise a complaint with our Grievance Officer (see Section 15) before approaching the Data Protection Board of India.

To exercise any of these rights, contact us using the details in Section 15.

10. Cookies & Similar Technologies

Our website and app use essential local storage and session tokens to keep you signed in and remember your language preference. We do not use third-party advertising or cross-site tracking cookies.

11. Third-Party Sign-In & Linked Services

MyUnion offers sign-in via Google and Facebook, and uses third-party infrastructure for live video and push notifications. These providers process data under their own privacy policies in addition to this one; we encourage you to review them. Links to app.myunion.in in this document point to our own platform, not a third party.

12. Children's Privacy

MyUnion is intended for users aged 18 years and above, given its focus on employment, union membership and elections. We do not knowingly collect personal data from children. If we learn that we have inadvertently collected data from a minor, we will delete it promptly.

13. International Data Transfer

Your data is primarily stored and processed on servers located in India. Where any service provider we use processes data outside India, we take reasonable steps to ensure it receives a comparable standard of protection.

14. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time to reflect changes in our practices or in applicable law. We will update the "Last Updated" date above and, for material changes, notify you through the app or website.
